Custom 404 pages are cool. Not only are they more interesting than the standard server 404, but they can also be useful in helping to drive traffic to an existing page. For example, you could include a sitemap, or a link back to your home page. This way, you may prevent some visitors from just leaving your site in frustration.

Whether you’re into search engine optimization or not, it’s always good to tell the search engines that a page has moved. Let’s say you had a page1.htm but decided to re-name it later to page2.htm. Well, there may be backlinks or bookmarks pointing to the old page1.htm, and you’re going to lose all that link juice if you don’t properly redirect the page. So how is this done?
