We’ve all been there. We’re listening to a song on Lala.com, click to play a new song, and bam! A sign-up box appears and won’t let you listen to any more music until you create an account.

Thanks Apple! The best alternative that I could find is Grooveshark.
Compulsory registrations suck. To get around this annoying and unnecessary evil, there are a few simple things we can do. First, you need to be sure you’re using Firefox.
This post has been updated to reflect the new version of the Remove Cookie extension. It works in all versions of Firefox now!
- Install the Remove Cookie extension
- Restart Firefox when prompted
- Visit Lala.com as you normally would
- Listen to your music, when a dialog box pops up prompting you to register, simply close the popup.
- Right-click on an empty area of the Lala.com site
- In the context menu, select “Remove cookies for site”
- Refresh Lala.com
- Voila! Go on listening. Repeat as necessary.

I thought LaLa, just stored your external IP address in their database, and the only way to get around it was to use a proxy server which changed your external IP or just go around to wifi hotspots, lol. I am usually able to listen to the same song again in a week or so on my same IP not sure how it works, though. Good strategy.
